Finding Satisfaction

I have been debating about whether or not to post this or not, but I really feel the Lord has laid this on my heart for a reason and that I should share it with others. So this is me...being vulnerable...but trusting that the Lord will use my vulnerability to help others. Here goes nothing!

So, it's true...I'm almost 19 and I have never been kissed before, much less ever dated anyone before. And honestly, most of the time, I'm ok with that. I'm even proud of that sometimes. I mean how many people can say that? But at the same time, I find myself often desiring a relationship. But over the years, I have come realize that no relationship here on earth will fully satisfy us. Whether it be friendships or a relationship with a guy or whoever, we are people and we will fall short and let each other down. We desire this perfect relationship with the perfect love but no one seems to come close to fulfilling our deepest desires. But wait...there IS someone who loves us perfectly and unconditionally, his name is Jesus. He came and sacrificed his life so that we could live. Even though we fall short and we don't meet his standards of perfection, he LOVES us soo much that he would give his life for us so that those shortcomings and failures of ours don't separate us from God. Only true satisfaction can be found in Jesus, not in your best friend or your boyfriend or any other relationship. When you find yourself sooo desiring a relationship, remember that that desire ultimately stems from our desire for Jesus. So as we seek love through many different ways, nothing can satisfy us except for the redemptive love of Christ. No guy can fill the void in our heart that is meant for God. We should seek the ONE (God) while waiting for the TWO (that guy).

I have learned that the Lord can teach me so much in my singleness, so be content and satisfied in Him during this time and listen for his guiding voice. It's hard...I know. I have been there, but I have also come to the point that I would much rather be single and in the will of God than dating and outside of God's will. It's been a journey coming to that conclusion, but I trust that the Lord has a plan for my life that far exceeds any plan that I could come up with. Handing over the pen to my love story is hard, but I know the Lord is faithful.

Hello, Fall!

Fall is in full swing here in Birmingham and thankfully the temperatures this week were more like fall than the wintery temperatures of last week. This past Saturday, my hall went to the pumpkin patch at Old Baker's Farm. It was so beautiful and perfect! We had a lot of fun picking out pumpkins and bringing them back to decorate our hall with. I also wore my tiny pocket tank (( sans the pocket )) that I made from Grainline Studios' pattern several months ago! Great pattern and easy to sew! The colors of the fabric that I chose are just too perfect for fall! Here are some pictures from our fun trip!

(( my roommate and RA ))

(( some of the lovely girls on my hall ))

(( my beautiful, big pumpkin!! ))

Hope ya'll are enjoying fall as much as I am! I got some fabric in the mail today so be on the lookout for a dress (I still haven't decided what I am going to make yet, but it will most likely be a dress!)

This Girl is from FLORIDA....

First off...when I moved up to Alabama to attend Samford, I knew the seasons were going to be much different than what I was used to....BUT, I did not realize how different they actually would be. You see, in Florida, I actually enjoyed the cool 70 degree fall weather and was looking forward to fall up here, with one small difference, the leaves changing colors. What I did not realize was that fall up here, was more like "winter" in Florida. What would be perfect is the 70 degree Florida temperature, with the Alabama trees that actually change colors. Maybe they are just experiencing a colder fall than normal, but if this is fall...winter is going to be a whole new experience for me. Warning: I may look like an eskimo the first real cold day that we have. On the plus side, I can see some winter clothes shopping happening in the not too distant future.

Here are some more photos from recent happenings up here...ENJOY!

(( Taylor and I at the Phi Mu tailgate ))
(( Home on fall break with Meredith! ))
(( My awesome BIG and TWIN! Love ya'll! ))
(( My massive family!! Next year, we are going to be HUGE! ))
(( I started an Instagram account just for the stuff that I make/sell! Go follow it: @asimpleseam ))
(( Lately, all the BIGS around Samford have been requesting that I embroider their blankets for their LITTLES! Love the business! Keep it coming! $10 per monogrammed/embroidered item  ))

Hope ya'll are having a good week! Only TWO days til FRIDAY!!!! Be excited!

Three Things Thursday: Music Video Edition

So, I really like I thought for this week, I would share three music videos that I love! Hope you enjoy them!

So I absolutely LOVE Rend Collective Experiment!!! I first saw them at a Chris Tomlin concert and I have loved them since then. This music video just makes me really happy. I love the quirkiness of the video and the lyrics are so amazing! Despite what is going on in this world, the Lord is there for us to run fast and free to. He is our in his presence. My favorite song from them is "You are My Vision," it is a remake of the hymn "Be Thou My Vision." I LOVE IT! (( Oh and they are Irish, which makes them even cooler ))

Kari Jobe's voice is just heavenly to start with. But this has been one of my favorite songs over the years. It's message is so good..."Even when it hurts, even when it's hard, even when it all just falls apart, I will run to you because I know that you are the lover of my soul, healer of my scars..You steady my heart." So encouraging when things just don't go as I want them to.

"Hallelujah, we are free to struggle! We're not struggling to be free! Your blood bought and makes us children!" This lyric video is just really cool and impressive to start with. But even more so, the lyrics are so powerful! All of Tenth Avenue North's songs are so amazing and always speak to me.

Hope you like these videos as much as I do! And Fall Break is this weekend and I cannot wait to be home and see people!!! This week cannot go by any slower though...

Have a good rest of the week!! Just remember...tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!

It's Been Awhile!

So, it has been way too long since I last posted!! So much has happened during that time!! I have been so busy with school and other events and activities that I just haven't had time to sit down and type a new post! I really am hoping to post more, but I do need to get into a better routine first. Things are finally settling in around here. Classes are going well...I am just REALLY busy with assignments and essays and papers and tests are starting to happen. Sometimes it feels extremely overwhelming...but I know that the Lord has a plan for me in all of this. I have been able to learn how to better manage my time, learn how to say no (this is really hard for me), and learn how to take a break sometimes.

It has been about one month since move-in day and I honestly don't know where these past 4 weeks have gone. So many wonderful memories have been made and I have made so many great friends already. I made 23 pocket tees (yes...23!!) for my hall, 1 East over Labor Day weekend! Since then, I feel like all of the freshman girls, even others, have come to find out that there is a girl who monograms on campus, which they are all really excited about! While I haven't had many orders yet, the orders are starting to come in more frequently now...which means even better time management on my part. Taking 18 credit hours and making pocket tees on the side might just be too much, but school is my first priority. Sewing is a stress reliever for me though, so it is nice to make some pocket tees on the weekend. But there is only so much one girl can do!

(23 pockets later...)

I also went through Recruitment and I got a bid from Phi Mu! Sooo excited about this ya'll!! The Lord really directed me there and I cannot wait to see his plan unfold! There are several Phi Mu's in Pharmacy School and they have already encouraged me and helped me out so much! What a blessing! I already feel such a connection with so many girls! I made my outfit for Bid Bash, I was Minnie Mouse! I wore a black shirt and black leggings and made a red and white polka-dotted skirt (which will also be perfect for gameday!) I made ears for me and another girl that I went with! I really loved how it turned out!
(Katie and I on the Phi Retreat!)
(Delaney, Margaret, and I also on the Phi Retreat!)
(Delaney and I as Mickey and Minnie Mouse for Bid Bash!)
(Family Weekend with my parents! It was soo good to see them!)
(Taylor and I on game day during Family Weekend!)

I am working on the Etsy store some more, trying to fix a few problems. Pocket tees will be added soon (when that is, I don't schedule is so crazy!) so be looking for those! In the meantime, message our Facebook page if you would like to place an order (especially if you go to Samford!)

Baby Bulldog!

I survived my first week of college!! And it was amazing! Connections weekend was great...but REALLY busy. We had ice cream at the President's house, a Hometown Throwdown, a night out in Birmingham, a Lecrae concert, and a lot more! It was great to meet new people and I have loved getting to know them. Classes started Monday and were a lot of work, but overall really good. I seriously live in the library already though. I need to find a spot and claim it for the next 6 years! As I type that, it seems like forever from now, but I know that it will go by a lot faster. Friday and Saturday, I went on the Freshmin Retreat with University Ministries. It was so great, but I ended up more tired after I got back then before I left. I wouldn't have changed a thing so far about college though. Despite it's craziness, being a baby bulldog is so great and I can't wait to experience more of college and Birmingham. I also visited The Church of Brook Hills today and loved it!! Can't wait to go back next Sunday!

Any recommendations of fun stuff to do or places to go in Birmingham?

Here are some pictures from this past week's events!

Getting Into You

When I made up my mind
And my heart along with that
To live not for myself
But yet for God, somebody said
Do you know what you are getting yourself into

When I finally ironed out
All of my priorities
And asked God to remove the doubt
That makes me so unsure of these
Things I ask myself, I ask myself
Do you know what you are getting yourself into

I'm getting into you
Because you got to me, in a way words can't describe
I'm getting into you
Because I've got to be
You're essential to survive
I'm going to love you with my life

When he looked at me and said
I kind of view you as a son
And for a second our eyes met
And I met that with a question
Do you know what you are getting yourself into

I've been a liar and I'll never amount to
The kind of person you deserve to worship you
You say you will not dwell on what I did but rather what I do you say
I love you and that's what you are getting yourself into

He said, I love you and that's what you are getting yourself into

I love these lyrics from Relient K's song "Getting Into You". Just beautiful! The fact that Jesus, the perfect Son of God, would humble himself and die for me never ceases to amaze me and bring me to my knees. Go listen to's one of my favorite songs by them.

Three Things Thursday: Pattern Edition

While I do love a good pattern, such as polka dots or stripes, this week's edition of TTT is about 3 patterns that I have and will be using in the coming weeks!!

1. Tiny Pocket Tank
          by: Grainline Studio
As I type this, my fabric for this adorable tank is cut and ready to go! Can't wait to share with ya'll what my version will look like!

Anyways, the thing that I love about this pattern is that you can download it as a PDF, print it out and begin sewing it without ever leaving your house (that is if you have 2 yards of fabric around). Also, it is pretty inexpensive for a nice pattern with very thorough instructions.

(( As a side note, the pattern leaves out the step of sewing the shoulders together...this would go right after you sew the sides up. ))

This pattern can be found HERE.

2. Scout Woven Tee
          by: Grainline Studio
I can't wait to get started on this pattern, also by Grainline Studio. Again, this pattern is downloaded as a PDF and can be printed immediately. It is the same price as the Tiny Pocket Tank and very similar in style, but without the pocket and with sleeves.

I found some Samford colored fabric (red and navy) the other day at a local fabric store and grabbed two yards of it for this shirt. Maybe I can get started on this sometime in the next week or so.

This pattern can be found HERE.

3. Sorbetto
          by: Colette Patterns

Guys...this pattern is FREE!!! And it is oh so cute!! It seriously looks like it came out of a cutesy boutique. A friend of mine, who is also a sewing enthusiast, recommended this pattern to me and I am so glad she did!

I have yet to find the perfect fabric to make this out of, but I have been looking. I really like the solid coral color pictured, so I might do something like that, but we'll see.

This pattern can be found HERE.

Have you used any of these patterns? Or are any of you hoping to make one sometime? Leave a comment!! I would love to hear what you have to say about these patterns :)

Dorm Suite Dorm

So, the past couple of days my future roommate, Breanna, has been in town visiting me! It's been so much fun and I am soo excited to move-in!! To get our dorm room ready, we made a couple of things to help tie in the colors of our room!
Just to start off, we made 3 trips to Hobby Lobby in 3 days as well as 1 trip to Hancock's.....but it was all worth it. Anyways, we decided to make monogram canvases to hang above each of our beds. I just love how they turned out too :) Both of our favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11, so naturally we had to make a canvas to hang in our room! Although the chevron took some time to tape off, I really love the outcome. We were planning on bringing my mini ironing board with us, but we just didn't like the cover very well so we made our own using Sew Caroline's tutorial on the blog Rags to Stitches HERE. Super quick and easy to make! And of course, more pillows were necessary and were also made using a Sew Caroline tutorial HERE. Last but not least, we made a Bedside Caddy (Designed by Kerry Smith) in the Stitch Magazine (can be purchased HERE). I can't wait to share with ya'll pictures once we finally do move in!

I am soo thankful that Breanna and I got to spend some time together before we move-in. I know that this next year is going to be busy but great!

Three Things Thursday: College Packing Edition

So, with my move-in date being only 35 days away, I thought for this week's Three Things Thursday, I would feature some of the products that will be making a home in my cozy little dorm room. Can't believe it's this close already!! Just seems like yesterday I was entering high school.

1. Kate Spade Comforter
Found HERE from Bed, Bath, & Beyond
I was originally planning on making my own comforter for my dorm room, mainly because I couldn't find anything that I really loved....BUT then I found this one and I fell in love!! I love the flowers on one side and the polka dots on the other :) Instead of buying matching pillows, I decided to make my own based off of Sew Caroline's tutorial. (( I also made one more solid one not pictured ))

2. Ikea Lap desk

Found HERE.
When looking for a lap desk, I was having a hard time finding one that didn't look super cheap or was way too expensive. This lap desk was only $9.99...too good of an offer to pass up on a lap desk that didn't look cheap and was super cute!! Don't you just love the polka dots?! I sure do!!

3. My Sewing Machine :)
I have a Husqvarna Viking Huskystar C10 found HERE.
Don't worry...I will be bringing my sewing machine with me to college!! I hope to have some spare time with my busy schedule (might I add includes 8 AM's every was by choice though) to get some sewing done and to begin working on some tutorials for the blog. Sewing is my therapy. When I am stressed or confused or sad or HAPPY...I sew :) I LOVE it and I hope that you do too (or that I inspire you to!).

As a sorry that it is late late Thursday night, but my roommate is in town and we have been sewing and crafting like crazy! Can't wait to share with ya'll what we have made!!! It is still Thursday...even if only for a few more minutes :)

New Blog Design!!!

I am SOO excited about this new blog design!! Doesn't it look great?! I came across Bella Lulu Ink on Etsy one day and I just fell in LOVE with her designs!! I began talking with Chelsea, the brains behind it all, about the blog and the whole process began. Although I have never really done any work like this with anyone before, Chelsea was quick with getting proofs to me and really helped me put what I had envisioned into her designs. Take a look at her designs!! She has a wide range of possibilities from pre-made, ready-to-be-installed blogs to custom work, or  even A La Carte options. Go check out her Etsy store HERE!!

Anyways, I hope you are having a fantastic Tuesday!! Sorry I haven't posted in a while! I have been traveling around yet again! I have also been sew busy with some orders from my friends for various things for their dorm rooms or for college in general. For my dorm room, I have made pillows for my bed and I am working on a t-shirt quilt with some of my high school shirts! I am excited to work on some other things that I have in mind for my room! (( my dorm room colors are actually the same as the blog and I didn't even plan it...guess I really like coral and teal! )) I will be back again on Thursday for THREE THINGS THURSDAY!!! This week I will be sharing 3 things that I will be bringing with me to college!! I am moving in at Samford in 37 DAYS!!! Say what?!?!? I can't believe it's already that close!!

Oh, and be looking for a GIVEAWAY soon!!!

From orientation in Birmingham, AL, to a mission trip in Maryville, TN, I have spent a lot of time in a car/bus already this summer. Despite the long hours, I wouldn't change it for the world.

On the mission trip at Eagle Rock Camp, ERC for short, God did some amazing things in my life and in the lives of everyone on the trip. The whole week was VERY busy and we were all running on little sleep, but everyone made the best of it and shared God's Word to those little children and special friends (adults with disabilities) on the mountain. I am just soo excited to share how God worked in my life throughout my senior year and while at ERC.

So rewind to the beginning of my senior year. I (somewhat reluctantly) decided to join yearbook as the photography editor. Now my school is pretty small so it wasn't a hard task. However, we had a really small staff so for each deadline we had more pages than usual. As we were brainstorming theme ideas, we had to come up with a few as a homework assignment. Without really giving it much thought, I came up with the theme "Salt and Light." The yearbook staff loved it and it became our theme for the book.

A couple of months later, my youth pastor did a series on Salt and Light. I got so excited because it was our yearbook theme, but I couldn't share it with anyone...we were all sworn to secrecy. As graduation was approaching, my class went on a senior trip to Seattle, WA. One of the speakers spoke about Salt and Light. At graduation, one of the speakers spoke about Salt and Light yet again. At this point, I knew God was wanting me to learn something specifically from the passage Matthew 5:13-16, I just didn't know what.

The week following graduation, I went to orientation at Samford. (( I am soo pumped about going to Samford guys! )) But, I did began feeling a little anxiety while registering for classes, asking myself questions like, "Is Pharmacy really where the Lord is directing me?" I began to think of the things I want in life such as a family of my own and trying to figure out (on my own) how all of that is going to work out while also having a career.

While at ERC, multiple times a day, Salt or Light would be brought up during my quiet time, songs, prayers, speakers, etc. It was all really exciting and somewhat overwhelming as I was seeking clarity. God began showing me though that Pharmacy IS where he wants me. As we were singing the song "Remedy", by David Crowder Band, I just felt the Lord confirming Pharmacy for me, as he is the ultimate remedy, but medicine is an earthly remedy. From there, He also began showing me that he wants me to use Pharmacy to minister to unreached people groups of the world. Within our family groups, we were each given a country with unreached people groups and the stats regarding the number of unreached people. It broke my heart to see the number of people that are unreached. Sometimes the only way to reach out to these people is to minister to their physical needs...where Pharmacy comes in for me.

I am excited to see what the Lord has in store for me as I head of to Samford to pursue this calling. I encourage each of you to be Salt and Light to everyone that you come in contact with. Don't hide your faith, let others see what God is doing in your life. And SHARE it!

What a CRAZY week!!

Well, since I last posted, I have been to Birmingham, AL, and back and I am packing again today for a mission trip to Maryville, TN. Orientation at Samford was Monday and Tuesday and it was AMAZING!!! What a tease though!! I wish I could go ahead and move in! We spent the night in the dorms and I was fortunate enough to be able to room with the roommate I will have in the fall! I can already tell that we are going to have a good year together. There were many information sessions at orientation, some exciting...some not, but I also got to register for classes!!! I ended up getting everything I wanted! Wednesdays and Fridays I am done by 10:30!!! Everyday I have an 8 AM class, which isn't what most people would want, but when I get to Pharmacy school it will be the same. I mean, in high school I had the same thing, so why change now?! Now I have my afternoons to myself :) and my sewing!! Or schoolwork I suppose...

Anyways, I also wanted to catch up on posting pictures from the Instagram photo challenge. (( if you want to follow username is @hduncan013 )) Here they are!! Sorry for how many there's been a while.

Day 5: personalized mason jar (painted an "H")
Day 6: Coffee Cozy!!! Be looking for these when I open my Etsy shop!! I just bought fabric for them and they are sooo cute!! I used a Starbucks coffee sleeve as a pattern.
Day 7: Paper Bag Skirt- probably my favorite thing that I have ever sewn!! I love how it turned out! Inspired by Sew Caroline :) I just added pockets and made it fuller. Great tutorial though!!
Day 8: Makeup pouch in SAMFORD colors!! Can't wait to get up there!!
Day 9: Knot Flip Flops also in Samford colors! (( can you tell I am excited?!? )) Tutorial from The Mother Huddle.
Day 10: Jeans to shorts!! Such an easy refashion :)
Day 11: Fold-over clutches :)
Day 12: Handwarmers (( even though it's summer )) Gotta get ready for seasons in Alabama so I better start preparing! Inspired by Armommy.
Day 13: Something Drawn...I CANNOT draw so I featured a drawing from my 4 year old niece :) I found it in my suitcase when I got home from visiting her!
Day 14: Washi Tape Storage (in your craft space) So easy and so cute and...once again in Samford colors :) Tutorial from Design Sponge.

Be back in a week from tomorrow!! Pray that God uses us in awesome ways in Maryville, TN!! Thanks guys!

Three Things Thursday: Week 3

Hey guys! So sorry I missed last week but I got back from my senior trip to Seattle, WA, at 2 AM Thursday morning, so I basically slept all day and completely forgot to post! Today for Three Things Thursday I want to share about 3 of my favorite things from Seattle! The trip was so much fun and I loved getting to do one last thing with my class. I am already missing everyone so much! But...I cannot wait for orientation at Samford on Monday and Tuesday. AND...Sunday, I finally get to meet my roomie and her family in person!!! I seriously can't wait for what the future holds.

1. The Space Needle

The view from the Space Needle was gorgeous! And there weren't too many clouds in the sky when we went so we could really see the city. I love our complimentary group shot from the Space Needle! These girls mean so much to me!!

2. Warm Beach Camp

We stayed at Warm Beach Camp during the trip, but we also helped them out around the camp from raking to clearing trails to building fences and picnic tables to gardening. I spent about 7 hours one day hands were about to fall off, but in the words of the camp director, we were "keeping the path to the cross clear." All the staff were so welcoming and the food was wonderful! God is doing great things at Warm Beach Camp and I am so thankful that I got to be a part of that. After we helped out around the camp one afternoon, we had the opportunity to do the high ropes course. Can I just say that it was one of the scariest yet coolest things I have ever done?! I really didn't think I could make it at one point, but the encouragement of my friends helped me move forward.

3. Pike's Place Market

Pike's Place Market was..umm..crazy!! Going to the 1st Starbucks was AWESOME. Although I don't drink coffee, the Chai Tea Latte and the Passion Tea Lemonade are two of my favorites. I love tea and Starbucks has a good variety. While there, I got a new Starbucks tumbler that I absolutely love!! The flowers everywhere in the market were gorgeous!! All the vendors were so unique and had such a variety to offer. Oh, and lunch at the Pasta Bar was great :) I highly recommend it!

Have any of ya'll been to Seattle, WA? I would love to hear your thoughts about it!
